Props used

Here are the props that we used in our film 'Speed dial', we were able to purchase the book from the library that we filmed at. The other items were all owned by the crew so were all free to use including the very expensive mac book which i kindly allowed the film to use.

Clothing presentation

Here is a presentation i made for the clothing for our characters........

Clothing for Alice W

These are the items of clothing we used for the character 'Alice W'. We wanted to dress Alice in a sexy way in order to attract male audience and to make the other character 'Conner Bay' have feelings for her. To dress her in a sexy way we got clothing from 'Ann Summers' famous for its sexy Legendre. We also used make up to make the character look more sexier and seductive.

Clothing for Conner Bay

These are the clothes we decided to dress the character 'Connor Bay' in. We wanted Connor to look smart but with a aspect of casual in there, we feel we have achieved this. The trousers, shirt, watch and tie are all those of what you could find on a business man in the city, this shows that Connor is serious and a good boy. Although Connor isn't always a good boy, so made his shoes and jacket very casual. All these items of clothing were in Topman so were easy to purchase.

Clothing for Craig D

These are the clothes we decided we wanted Craig D to wear. We had Craig's character wearing smart clothes but make them a bit more casual than the average school kid. We wanted to show that craig was rebellious through his outfit and we think we achieved this through the lack of school uniform. This is shown by the use of black skinny jeans over school trousers and a tweed blazer over a suit jacket. Also, we decided to give the character a casual shirt over a smart shirt. All these clothes could be purchased from Topman and so these were easy to find and purchase.

Flashback productions

 FLASHBACK PRODUCTIONS

  • We decided to use the name Flashback Productions as the use of flashbacks are a theme common in Action and Sci-fi movies.
  • Our film had a very small budget and so had to be made by an independent production company.
  • Our film is different to most independent films. The genre of our film is not one used a lot by independent production companies.
  • Most independent films would not go for a sci-fi or an action film as they would be concerned about the budget. Tom Wallen's skills in the editing process has made it possible to

25 word pitch development

 25 word pitch development

1. AN INITIALLY EXCITING ADVENTURE TURNS DARK AFTER TWO BOYS DISCOVER THAT THEIR ACTIONS HAVE DIRE CONSEQUENCES.

2. TWO BOYS FRIENDSHIP IS tested AFTER THEY DISCOVER THAT HAVING AN EXTRAORDINARY POWER ISN'T ALWAYS A GOOD THING.

3. TWO BOYS. ONE PHONE BOX. ANYTHING ANYWHERE IS POSSIBLE.

4. NOWHERE IS OFF-LIMITS WHEN TWO BOYS DISCOVER A PHONE BOX WITH THE POWER TO TELEPORT THEM ANYWHERE.

We decided to think up some more idea's for our twenty five pitch, as we felt our previous attempts were not up to scratch. We think that one of these attempts (possibly no.4) will be our final 25 word pitch.

My final logo

 Final logo
This is my final development for a logo for our film 'speed dial'. I have only made one final change from my previous development, and that is adding more green into the logo to give more of a magical feel to the logo. I am happy with my final attempt at my logo and feel it has an equal aspect of speed and magic in it. I also feel it will appeal to our target audience, as it is young and modern.

Logo development

 Logo development
This is my developed creation of a logo for our film 'speed dial'. I decided to development my third attempt, as I felt it had a good mix between magic and speed. I wanted to add more of a speed aspect into it however, and added in some speed lines coming out of each letter. I found this worked well and really showed speed in the logo, and suited out film. I then wanted to change the colour, as I felt purple gave the wrong impression of magic to the logo. so decided to use yellow and a hint of green. I felt the mix worked really well and didn't give the impression of Brazil as I first feared. I will now go onto developing the logo one final time and that will be my final logo.

Third logo attempt

This is my third and final attempt at a logo for our film 'speed dial', this time I have gone away from my last concept of speed, and concentrated on the stereotypical font of speed. It is once again slightly tilted font like my first attempt, how ever this time without the lightening strikes. I then had to look at colour and decided to look away from yellow, and concentrate of the magical side of our film. I found that purple works best for showing magic, and is very stereotypical of magic. I will now look into developing one of my three designs at a logo, and go into developing further.

Second logo attempt

This is my second attempt at  creating a logo for our film 'speed dial', i once again looked at using an aspect of speed, however this time in a different way. I found a font which looked to have the smoothness of aerodynamics from on a car on it, and showed the aspect of speed this way. I was impressed in the way it looked and could see it appealing to our target audience. When looking into colour I decided to use two colours, instead of one, and chose green and yellow. These colours suited each other well, although did give the logo a Brazilian feel. I therefore decided to add thick black lining to each letter, and gave the logo a magical aspect. I will now look into creating a third logo and then decide which one to develop further.

First logo attempt

This was my first attempt at creating a logo for our film 'Speed dial', as the name 'speed' was big in the title I felt that having an aspect of speed was crucial in the logo. Whilst creating the logo i came across a font which had the connotation of speed I was looking for, and chose to go with it. The font has speed lines coming off the back of each letter, and the letters are also slightly tilted, showing the aspect of speed. I then looked into which colour to use and i wanted to use a colour which was bright and showed a aspect of magic. I found that yellow used a stereotype of magic, and added in red lines at the bottom of each letter to increase the aspect of speed. I will now look into creating a new logo or developing this one, depending on what else I can come up with.

improvements to filming

 improvements to filming

Whilst filming realized that there were some areas of our idea that needed improving, for example the sound of cars driving past was hindering the sound of the actors talking. We are now looking into different locations to filming or using two different locations from the phone box and 'Craig" loosing his phone. Also in the library scene we were unable to use a tri-pod and the shot was very wobbly, so we are now looking for a different library or different angle of the shot.

Also one of our actors became unavailable due to personal reasons, but a replacement was straight away and if we are honest is twice the actor of our original. The weather is a big role for if our setting works the way we want it to work, so we are looking for the best possible time to film.

Title development

'Speed Dial'

This is my final choice for the title of our film, and it will be called 'speed dial'. I feel this name will attract out target audience of male under 18's, as it is modern and catchy. I also feel it suits the style of out film and gives the right impression to people unaware of the storyline to our film. I will now go onto creating a logo for  our film as i know have a name to work with, I will create 3 logo's and then develop one creation from the three.

audience research

 audience research

Audience research is crucial for films to develop as part of pre-production of a film. our target audience is under 18's, so to do this we used actors aged 17 playing characters 17 years old. through out the film there will be references to popular modern culture, so our audience will be able to relate.

It became clear when looking at our influences that our film would appeal to a wide range audience. It appeals to this as combinations of genres, for example action and Sci-Fi, so people who are fans of these genres would watch our film. Our influences are back to the future, chronicle and back to the future 2. These all have wide range of target audience and have the same aspect of genres as ours.

back to the future

.
=

This is Back to the future user ratings from the popular film rating website, IMDB. IMDB uses categories like age and gender to show people's rating of films. Back to the future is similar to our film as it uses aspect of teleporting, and has the same theme and look to ours. this shows me that the results on the graph above will be the same audience watching our film, and can take influences in there. the category "aged under 18" showed the best results from the ratings, showing its target audience. this shows me that our film must be able to relate to the audience as good as this film did, and can take some influences out of the film in order to do this.

Chronicle

The chart above shows the user ratings for the film chronicle on the website IMDB. Chronicle is the influence i got for the idea of two best friends falling out. The user ratings shows me that once again the "males under 18" got the highest mark, and shows me that our target audience will relate to this plot. It also shows me that the older audience of "females over 45" scored the lowest scores, this shows me that females do not relate to this plot, and is more appealing to males under 18. This shows me that the plot of two friends falling out has a very specific target audience, and we must make sure that our actors, plot and setting all appeal to this very specific audience.

Back to the future part two

The chart above shows the viewer ratings on the website IMDB from the film Back to the future part two. The chart shows me once again that males under the age of 18 got the best marks from the report, and this confirms to me that the male under 18 is the target audience for this genre. Also the male category of under 18 scored the most marks along with 'under 18',also confirming to me that males are more interested then females. The female category of over 45 scored the lowest marks, showing me that the elder person is not interested. This means that we must make sure that our plot, actors and setting all appeal the the male audience of under 18 and make sure that the can relax to it.

Title of film

 Title of our film

These are a few idea's that our group came up with for a name for the title of our film. As the film is about a magical phone box, we decided it should be about what the phone box is about. This gave us names like 'lose connection', 'connection', 'wormhole creator' and 'speed dial'. We then looked at the idea of the magical door, as that is what gets them around different places. This gave the idea's like 'opened doors' and 'unlocked doors', finally we used our imagination  to create a name from the feel of our film, which gave us the last few idea's of names for our film. We will now look at either developing one of these idea's or carrying on creating new names.

location and casting

Casting

Connor Froy as Connor F
Connor is 17 years old and is 6 feet tall. He has a big build and could easily play the hero of our film. He is seventeen and he would easily fit in a student at this age. He is male and would play the part of Connor F. The role of Connor F was written around Connor Froy's style of acting - he is quite cockney and would have a strong presence on screen. Connor will be avaliable for filming all through our schedule. Connor will not be paid for his role but will be able to use this as part of his acting portfolio. Connor is a ex-MMA fighter so will be able to handle the fighting scenes easily.

Charlie Walters as Craig D
Charlie is 6,9 and is one of the strongest people int he year. He does not have much drama experiance however does fit the need of a strong, good looking teenager and is willing to give his time up to film for us. We are pleased to have Charlie as a lot of other groups wanted him in their film, how ever Charlie picked us as he feels we have the best storyline. Charlie will not be paid for his role, but can put this in his acting portfolio.

Ben Manners as Alex S
Ben Manners is 5,9 and big built, although we will only being seeing the op half of his body in the car. He has never done acting before, how ever he does have experience in smoking weed so can take on the roll as a natural. He will only be on screen for 5-10 seconds so it does not matter about his looks and lack of acting skills. Alex feels he can take on the roll as a drug taking teenager well, and so do we.

Christina Goedeck as Alice W
Christina is 5,4 and not to good on the eye, if you get what i mean. She has little expirence in acting, although is a natural slag so can take on the roll well. As she is not very good looking a lot of make up is needed to make her look nice, but this will happen. She will be in a towell only and putting on make-up in the clip which is only 5-10 seconds long. Christina feels she can take on the roll as a slutty 17 year old girl well, and we agree.
