Action/Crime - inside man

The opening scene shows you what the movie is about, by having the main character tell you about there plot of a bank robbery. He also Tel's his name and where he is, although does leave some questions unanswered to keep the viewer guessing. we see him in a combined space, which he makes us believe is a prison cell, but does give clue's that he may not be in a prison cell but just a combined space. We don't see any other characters in the opening sequence showing the importance to the main character. He goes through who, what, when, where and why giving the viewer a big insight to the film, yet raises a lot of questions which are answered in the film. the viewer at this point has a lot of information at once and may be confuse on what importance it has in the film.
The camera angle is just a normal close up on the main character, with a black background and him just wearing a plane jumper. then it jumps to a long shot of him in a small, dark room with three clips of him reading, working out and eating pizza, at the start of the film this all seems very random, but does make sense as the film goes on. by having just a background makes the focas on the main charcter strong and makes the viewer listen more t what he is saying. this shows us that what he is saying is important to the film. the background starts to come into colour as he talks about the robbery giving us another clue to the film and also shows the importance of what he is saying again.
near the end of the opening there are clips showing the new york sky line and where the film is set. a black van going across the Brookline bridge showing that van will be important and the fact we have seen the new york sky line and a description of a bank robbery it shows us that a bank robbery will take place in new york with the black van involved.

The Firm - social realism

ironically we first see the warner brothers logo, and then the first action of the film representing the big studios that make it. In the opening scene shows the main character - Bex - walking across a estate in a bright red tracksuit and holding a paper. It is stereo typical of a hooligan in the 1980's, and the way he walks with a certain type of swag is stereo typical of a hooligan. There is a lot of bad language used at the start another stero type and a lot of cockney rhyming slang. The music used is a town called malace by the jam which represents the lively lifestyle of a hooligans life. The credits are used added in with CGI and not really in focus. The font used will normally be seen in night clubs or kebab shops, also representing the life style of a hooligan. We only meet the character bex who is the leader of the firm, and is one of the main characters but surprisingly not the main one. This adds to the story line of a young boy becoming involved of a football firm and the effects that come with it. He then meets up with the other members of the film, who are all drinking beers and singing songs. this represents what a hooligan would do on a weekend, getting drunk, being loud and having a good time in their own way. They quickly move on from the pub and meet up with another firm to have a fight, they do this by walking in a line through the streets and disobeying the police. all of this is stereo typical of a hooligan and what firms do every weekend. This sort of behavior is heavily criticized by police and most people alike and is some of the reasons why people want the police to act harder vs the firms of english football.

Saving Private Ryan - War

the opening scene of saving private ryan we see a empty beach and a black sky giving a grim feel. There are no credits at the start with just boats coming into the beach with no music and just diagetic sound. a clever shot shows the hole boat with all the men and there different emotions, from adrenalin to fear of death.  As the film is based on facts from the event the film try's to keep to facts and out over the experiences they the soldiers experienced first hand.
